1.   Intro to Dancing to Blues/Slower music

This workshop will give you a good start to dancing to Blues music and slower tracks.  You’ll learn about the main differences between faster Modern Jive and Blues, in terms of music and dance style, and learn some techniques and moves which will enhance not only your Blues dancing but will enhance your Modern Jive dancing generally as well.  Morris and Judith are regular Blues rooms social dancers at venues all over the country, and will be joined and assisted by other well-known Blues social dancers/teachers who will share some of their favourite moves with you.

2.   ‘Track the DJ’ with CJ

Workshop for DJs (existing and wannabe!)

This is a new concept on workshops!!  You’ve heard of ‘Sack the DJ’?  Well this is ‘Track the DJ’…

a workshop to help DJs get on track.

CJ, who has years and years of experience as a DJ in all sorts of dance settings, will be sharing some of his knowledge and experience of DJ’ing with whoever would like to come.  Whether you are a wannabe DJ or have lots of experience yourself within any dance organisation… this is an opportunity to share and learn from CJ and other DJs.

THEN we’ll give you a chance to put some of the learning into practice by playing some of your stuff in a little set in our second room during the freestyle on the night of 1st May.  So bring along your CDs/and/or lap-top!

MJ-ive events are known for the quality of their music/DJs so it’ll give you a chance to get heard and danced to by some quality dancers who get around the circuit a bit.

And the cost…?  4 hours of DJ workshop all for £10!!

Value or what?

Who is CJ?  (Does he really need introducing?!)

CJ has been a professional DJ for some 19 years now, with over 16 years’ experience in Modern Jive DJing.  He DJ’d for CEROC in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Stirling, Aberdeen, Dundee, Falkirk as well as various weekend events and in Twyford.

CJ then moved to independent DJ’ing and made his name DJing in main Rooms and Blues Rooms including weekenders, and is perhaps most recently known for his pioneering approach to DJ’ing with his dynamic Mariachi brand (with its various tones and styles)…. of Modern Jive dancing music.

As well as DJing for MJ venues, CJ was a successful DJ doing the glamorous side of DJing (weddings, Bar Mitzvas, etc) as well as club and student bar DJing.

CJ has built his reputation on sculpting great nights of dancing.  He knows it isn’t good enough to just play a collection of great songs.  The songs must fit together to make a whole.  Each track has its context, and if the context is matched by the music THEN a track will become a great track.  Wrong context… and your great track isn’t great…  played at the wrong time it is the wrong track.

The workshop itself will cover some of the techniques of sculpting sets, how to ‘read’ floors, track selection, and some of the more technical aspects of DJing, including mixing, software selection, mic technique, etc.

Places will be limited for this workshop so book early by e-mailing us (address below)
